P-Median For Facility Location

P-Median For Facility Location

6/15/2014  · The objective of facility location problems is to find a place to locate a facility in order to minimize the total setup cost and the total cost of transportation between clients and facilities. The objective of p -median problem is to determine the locations of p facilities and their assigned clients in order to minimize the total cost of transportation between clients and facilities.

THE P-MEDIAN. PROBLEM The P-median Problem In the p-median problem we are interested in finding the location of p facilities to serve demand nodes so that the transportation cost is minimized. The transportation cost is given by the product of the demand at the demand node and the distance between the demand node and the facility that serves the demand node.

A dynamic p-median problem is considered. Demand is changing over a given time horizon and the facilities are built one at a time at given times. Once a new facility is built, some of the customers will use its services and some of the customers will patronize an existing facility. At any given time, customers patronize the closest facility.

Drezner (1995) developed a dynamic p-median model to find the best location to build a new facility in addition to existing ones. Chukwusa (2014) explored the impact of spatiotemporal variations in demand and suggested a trend-weighted location -allocation model to solve the p-median problem when the demand is changing over time.

The p-median problem is a common model for optimal facility location . The task is to place p facilities (e.g.

warehouses or schools) in a heterogeneously populated space such that the average distance from a person’s home to the nearest facility is minimized.

In 2018 the costs incurred for transportation of BAU OCTG (Oil Country Tubular Goods) material amounted to Rp 45,733,340,000. Distribution center is an alternative for cutting distribution chains. We proposed allocation of facility such distribution center location decision using p-median optimization model to reduce the BAU transportation cost.

Mathematically, the P-Median problem can be summarized as follows: Inputs. Decision Variables. Minimize. Subject to. The objective function, (a), minimizes the total demand-weighted distance between each customer and the nearest facility . The constraints insure that the various properties of the problem are enforced. Specifically:, 8/29/2017  · Many location models have been formulated that can be applied to the location of healthcare facilities. The p-median model in [9, 10] identifies optimal locations of p facilities by minimising total weighted travel distance from each demand node to the nearest facility. With increasing average travelling distance, facility accessibility decreases, and thus the location’s effectiveness decreases.

12/21/2017  · This general facility location model can be cast as a covering model, a P-median model or a P- center model, each suited for different needs in a large-scale emergency. Illustrative examples are given to show how the proposed model can be used to optimize the locations of facilities for medical supplies to address large-scale emergencies in the …
